George Salhab

Joseph George Salhab died February 25, 1998 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston due to complications from lung cancer. Born in Beaumont on June 4, 1929, he attended St. Anthony's Grammar and High School, and graduated in 1951 from St. Edward's University in Austin. During high school and college he was an exceptional golfer, winning numerous tournaments and championships, including the Beaumont City Championship in 1949. He was a retired restauanteur and nightclub owner.
After graduating from college, he and his father took a trip to his parent's birthplace of Batroun, Lebanon. While there he met his wife, Najla Touma, who he has been married to for forty-six years.
Survivors include his wife, Najla Salhab of Beaumont; son, Joseph Salhab of Houston; daughters, Marie Salhab McClelland and her husband Ewert and Celeste Salhab Hillin and her husband Jay all of Beaumont, and Melissa Salhab of Austin; grandchildren, Shaun and Meghan Hillin and Emily McClelland; and step grandchildren, Amanda and Jared McClelland.
